About Beis Yehudis

Following the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe it was no longer necessary for Judaism to remain hidden behind closed doors. Rabbi and Mrs Weiss moved from Israel to Moscow to develop opportunities for the Jewish community. Rabbi Weiss concentrated on the development of the Jewish curricula while his wife began to address the problems facing young Jewsih girls.

In 1994 Mrs Weiss gained permission from the Moscow educational authories to open an official school. At that time the school was educating and supporting around 50 girls aged 6 to 16 years.

The following year the school was officially recognised by the authorities as offering the best education within Moscow. In response to the high demand for places, through generous donations at the time, the school was expanded to offer primary and secondary education.

However it became clear offering a place of education alone was not enough for these children. Today the centre's services encompass the provision of a regular daily hot meal, clothing and medical care to all who attend the centre, regardless of age; educational provision and support services and the development of accommodation for the increasing numbers of young women from outside Moscow who wanted to be able to benefit from educational opportunities the centre could afford them.

OUR SCHOOL IS ENTIRELY DEPENDENT ON VOLUNTARY DONATIONS.
WE RECEIVE NO STATUTORY FUNDING, AND PARENTS OF PUPILS ARE UNABLE TO HELP.
