Case Histories
Gila’s story
Gila is an orphan. She lived with her grandmother who had been seriously ill and had been affected mentally by her illness. By chance, a caring upstairs neighbour intervened on Gila's behalf and, knowing she was Jewish, contacted BYM and arranged a meeting with Rivka Weiss. She was taken in by BYM, where she now lives, in a healthy, warm and home-like environment. Since then Gila has been excelling in the 10th grade and has been learning all about her Jewish Heritage. BYM was also able to extend their help to Gila’s grandmother. The presence of Benjamin Shulman, a full time psychologist over a number of years, was vital in helping Gila to flourish at BYM.

Nina has no mother. At the age of 13 she went to Israel but she found she was unable to cope. After finding it very hard at a Jewish school in Israel she was forced to return to her father in Moscow. In trying to ensure a better life for his daughter, Nina’s father found BYM. When she later returned to Israel, it was under the guiding hand of Beis Yehudis Moscow and she continued her studies at Ateres Yehudis, an extension of BYM. Today Nina is happily married and works in Israel as an interior decorator.

When Elka’s mother became more religious, she heard about BYM and both Elka and her baby son were immediately taken in and looked after BYM.
Victor’s Story
Victors father abandoned his mother and his four children giving no information as to where he could be found. The family lived under extremely poor circumstances. Victors mother dropped him at BYM and has since had no further contact with him. The phone number she left BYM was false. BYM housed him, clothed him and provided him with the stability he so desperately needed. The only family he knew from that moment on was the other children and the staff of Beis Yehudis.
